Message VR4 are not variable...they are permanently 45% front, 55% rear drive.

My understanding is that it is variable. After looking around online, I can't find a verifiable source that says either way. Do you have some documentation on that figure?

It is also not true to say they are slower than Z's stock.

I didn't say they were slower. Where did you get that from?

It's completely subjective to which tests and years you refer to. The variable test figures apply to both cars. Personally, my VR4 stock ran 13.7, 13.3 on only a boost contoller (stock filter), and gutted pre cats. Never ran my Z stock...but intake, ECU, boost and catback went 13.3.

That's very interesting, but I didn't say they were slower.

I agree that the Z is a better track car...but the VR4 does NOT simply just plow through the corners.

The one I drove did. Badly. Maybe I'm crazy. Or maybe it's the 3710 lb weight, without driver.

As far as transmissions go, they do not blow up.

Every local 3KGT I've seen has needed a replacement transmission. I suppose that's 3 out of 3 I know of personally. Every review I've read (magazine or personal) has mentioned the Getrag transmission as being a breaking point, here's a few to get you started:

They do have syncro issues, as does the Z. If you were thinking of the DSM all wheel trans, then you sir would be correct. There are weaker transfer cases in the 93 and earlier models.

They had recalls on the later models as well apparently. "Oil leaks."
